Oil sludge is the hydrocarbon that settled, thickened, and stopped pumping. Hasten Cleanse is a water-based concentrate that gets into the sludge, breaks the bond with the steel, and turns it into a water suspension a vac truck or pump can move. It suppresses the vapor coming off the sludge while it works. This is an industrial product for tanks, separators, sumps, and pits, not an engine additive.

Getting Sludge Out

Dilute 1:10 for heavy sludge. Warm water, 140 to 160 degrees, helps most on crude.

Circulate through the sludge layer, or spray and soak where circulation is not possible.

Agitate. The product breaks the bond; movement finishes the job.

Pump or vac the suspension. It behaves like water, not like sludge.

Send the water to treatment as non-hazardous. The fatty-acid base feeds the plant.

What Hasten Cleanse does not do

It is not a solvent and not a caustic. It will not dissolve, melt, or strip material that is physically bonded or baked onto a surface: scale, rust, hardened deposits, coatings. It lifts hydrocarbons, oil, grease, crude, sludge, and paraffin, by emulsifying them, and it needs agitation, circulation, pressure, or heat to do that work. If your problem is a stuck-on solid rather than a hydrocarbon film or residue, tell us and we will say so.

Crude tank bottoms

The classic case. Hot circulation at 1:10, then vac.

API and oil-water separators

Sludge plus high LEL in a confined space. Vapor suppression is the second half of the value.

Sumps and pits

Mixed hydrocarbon sludge and water. Spray, soak, agitate, pump.

Slop and skim tanks

Emulsion and settled solids. Circulate warm at 1:10 to 1:20.

Oil Sludge Questions, Answered Straight

Is this the water-based sludge remover?

Yes. Water-based, no flash point, non-hazardous. It is not a solvent product and not an engine oil additive.

Will it dissolve the sludge?

It suspends it in water so it pumps. It does not dissolve it into oil the way a solvent does, which is why the wash water is non-hazardous.

What about hardened, dried-out material?

It works on hydrocarbon that is still hydrocarbon. Material that has hardened into a solid bonded to the steel needs mechanical removal first. It is not a caustic.

Does heat matter?

Yes. 140 to 160 degrees is best on crude sludge. It works at ambient, slower.

What dilution?

1:10 for heavy sludge. 1:20 once the bulk is out and you are cleaning the surface.
